Milites came from all over the Roman Empire, such as Spain (Hispania), France (Gallia), Africa, Britain (Britannia) and Italy (Italia). They were not allowed to marry during their years of service. They were trained to construct bridges and roads, as well as to set up camp. Milites embodied a strong sense of discipline and ruthless persistence. They marched and maneuvered formations as one unit, a β€˜Centvria’ (Centuria – 80 fighting men).
