Breonna, daughter of Claudius – king of the Cantii. I was born and raised in Britannia in the lands of my Family Celtic tribe Cantiaci (Cantii), where my father, a descendant in the line of Anarevitos, was king of the Province. The Cantii are the most civilized of tribes and it was wise not oppose any kind of Roman influence. We actively traded with the Mediterranean world, exchanging locally-produced cattle, grain, metal and slaves for wine, olive oil and exotic forms of glassware and pottery. Being a princess of The Cantii I was also in close contact with the Roman Overlords. I am also the chief Druid of my Tribe which proved even more useful in my later years
“Ex his omnibus longe sunt humanissimi qui Cantium incolunt, quae regio est maritima omnis, neque multum a Gallica differunt consuetudine.”
Of all these (British tribes), by far the most civilised are they who dwell in Kent, which is entirely a maritime region, and who differ but little from the Gauls in their customs.”De Bello Gallicum – Julius Caesar
My destiny changed when my beloved father was mortally wounded, whilst protecting Cossus Cornelius Lentulus, in an ambush by a rival tribe – the Catuellauni, who were leading the resistance against the Roman conquest. Subsequently Cossus Cornelius was appointed by the Roman Governor of the province as Praetor and Magistrate of Cantii lands, and later promoted as Legatus of the Roman garrisons of Londinium, Durouernum and Cantiacorum. In gratitude to my later father bravery, Cossus took me under his protection and later was freed and made a Roman citizen. Sometime later I was adopted by Cossus.
In the household of Cossus, although a descendant of nobility, I interacted with attendants and used to help them in their task and daily chores. I took interest in the making of cloth and the fabric industry. In spite of the fact that most of the clothing was imported, I took it upon myself to get to know this industry. I loved the basic tasks related tasks leading to textile production, such as preparing the wool, dyeing, spinning and weaving, laundry, re-dyeing faded items, and patching together used clothes for slaves.
Having been adopted as a daughter of Cossus, this gave me a brother Quintus Aurelius. When news of his father’s attack reached him Aurelius returned to us in Britannia As Cossus’ sole heir, he inherited his father’s titles and deeds. I grew accustomed to him and became very fond of him as he treated me with respect and love. The Senate recalled Quintus Aurelius to Rome and his household followed back to the estate in the north of Italy. So now I am a Celtic Druid living away from my ancestral lands and home in the service of my adopted family in a far away land. How I long go back to Britannia but I fear this will not happen in this lifetime. However my Brother has vowed that when the time arrives for me to join my ancestors he will place my bones to rest in the sacred grove back in Britannia. For this I will love him.
